C’est le coureur Australien Damien Howson, 21 ans, qui remporte le championnat du Monde du contre la montre espoirs (U23). Il devance le Français Yoann Paillot, 22 ans et le Danois Lasse Norman Hansen .
Déjà champion d’Océanie, et médaillé de Bronze l’année dernière, Howson a realisé un contre la montre parfait sur 43km et devance le Français Paillot de 57 sec. Le jeune Australien a déjà signé un contrat pour la saison 2014 avec le team Orica-GreenEdge et il ne fait nul doute que l’on reverra très vite ce nouveau champion du Monde chrono sur les podiums pro .
A noter la superbe performance de Ryan Mullen, tout juste 19 ans, qui termine 7 de ce chrono. C’est la première année en U23 et le jeune Irlandais, déjà double médaillé de bronze aux derniers mondiaux sur piste, prouve qu’il reste l’un des futurs grands de la spécialité.
