Hugh Mulhearne remporte le titre Vétéran en Irlande devant Greg Swinand

Aujourd’hui, à Carlingford, Co Louth, en plus du championnat d’Irlande féminin, se déroulait celui des vétérans . C’est Hugh Mulhearne qui remporte, sous la pluie, ce titre devant son compagnon d’échappé Greg Swinand

Dès les premiers kilomètres, un groupe de 12 hommes s’échappent et on retrouve, entre autre, Hugh Mulhearne, Greg Swinand, Joe Fenlon (le champion d’Irlande vétéran 2012) . A mi-parcours , ils possèdent plus d’une minute d’avance sur un peloton peu en clin a chasser.

Mais à deux tours de l’arrivée, Mulhearne prends les initiatives et démarre en force, faisant exploser ce groupe. Seul Swinand restera dans ces roues. L’écart se réduisit entre les deux coureurs et le reste du peloton. Swinand tente alors de semer son compagnon , plus rapide que lui au sprint. mais rien ne fera lâcher Mulhearne qui l’emporte assez nettement au sprint. L’ancien champion d’Irlande Vétéran Joe Fenlon termine 5 ème à 39 sec.
