Cela fait déjà un an que les équipes irlandaises viennent de plus en plus en Bretagne. Depuis quelques années, le team pro An Post Kelly Team est déjà fidèle à la mi-août en Bretagne. Ils l’ont même remporté en 2011 avec Mark McNally et Ronan McLoughlin termine deux fois 4 ème en 2010 et 2011 au général. Plusieurs coureurs sont venus se former comme Sean Downey avec le team Côtes d’Armor et Mark Dowling avec l’EC Mayenne et tant d’autres.
Mais depuis cette année, avec le team national d’Irlande qui était venu sur le Kreiz Breizh en Juillet dernier, le team élite Dan Morrissey Speedy Spokes a ouvert une autre brèche, dans les courses élite. Sous l’impulsion de Tim Barry, John Horgan, Philip Finegan et Jean Vantalon, ils s’étaient présentés sur cette courses par étapes relativement sélective. Le team se composait de Paidi O’Brien, Sean Lacey, Joseph Fenlon, Tim Barry, Mark Dowling, Philip Finegan, Michael Fitzgerald.
Un excellent souvenir celtique car ils étaient accompagnés de Jean Vantalon et Ronan Le Pennec, leurs cousins bretons.Pourtant, la course avait mal commencé avec la panne de la voiture de l’équipe. Malgré la pluie et le vent, le team ne déprimait pas. Ils voulaient connaitre cette terre de vélo qu’est la Bretagne et découvrir le peloton élite breton.
Ils se sont battus mais malgré les petits virus causé par la météo d’un printemps capricieux : la Bretagne est une terre difficile. Pourtant, quelques uns ont tiré leur épingle du jeu comme Tim Barry , 38 ans, qui a mené la vie dure aux jeunes champions locaux ainsi que Sean Lacey , longtemps placé dans le top ten. Mark Dowling , dès la première étape, avait réussi à hisser haut les couleurs de Dan Morrissey.
En Avril, les cyclosportifs d’Irlande, du Pays de Galles, De l’ile de Man et d’Ecosse, ont rallié à leur tour la Bretagne. Ils ont vibré sur les terres du Tro Bro Leon (le Paris-Roubaix breton) organisé par Jean Paul Mellouet. Padraic Quinn avait profité de l’événement pour effectuer le jumelage de la cyclosport entre les cousins celtes.
Là aussi, le succès était au rendez-vous. Au cœur de l’été, à la fin du mois de juillet, le team de l’équipe nationale d’Irlande mené par Bernard McCormack et John Horgan avec l’aide de Jean Vantalon qui découvre la région bretonne pour rejoindre la course Kreiz Breizh. On y retrouvait Ronan Mc Loughlin, Sam Bennet, Aaron Buggle, Jack Wilson, Sean Downey, Peter Hawkins.
Ils n’ont pas remporté cette course mais ils ont su mettre leur force au profit de l’équipe et même se montrer dans les arrivées au sprint à l’image de Sam Bennett et de Ronan Mc Loughlin, tout ceci, en prévision des championnats du monde et du Tour d’Angleterre. Cela a dû leur être bénéfique à la lumière de leur fin de saison. Le superbe Tour d’Angleterre réalisé par Sam Bennett, Ronan McLoughlin et Peter Hawkins. Le directeur de la course, Alain Baniel était ravi de les recvoir et à la fin de cette épreuve, leur demandait de revenir pour la saison prochaine en 2013. Nul doute que le team National d’Irlande se présentera de nouveau. Il ne faut pas oublier le mois d’août et l’arrivée sur la mi-août bretonne des An Post Kelly Team emmené par Ronan Mcloughlin.
Comment, ne pas évoquer la venue de Bernad Hinault au Tour du Connemara. Le quintuple vainqueur du Tour de France, vainqueur de Paris-Roubaix, du Giro, de la Vuelta sur le tour du Connemara a répondu positivement à l’invitation de Padraic Quinn, le président des Celtic Cycling series et Velotec. 1000 personnes ont participé à la randonnée aux côtés de la légende du cyclisme. Bernard Hinault, enchanté , reviendra sur les terres irlandaises, admiratif des paysages et l’accueill qui lui a était réservé.
Le pont entre Celtes est effectué par le sport. Le cyclisme peut ouvrir d’autres portes, le foot gaélique aussi . Un sport qui connait un beau succès en Bretagne et dont Be Celt fera bientôt un reportage.

Ireland and Brittany closer thanks to cycling
It’s been a year since the Irish teams started coming back to Brittany. In recent years, the pro An Post Team Kelly was loyal to Brittany in Mi Aout Bretonne. They even won it in 2011 with Mark McNally and Ronan McLoughlin finishing 4th overall twice in 2010 and 201. Several riders came to race for the season, Sean Downey with Côtes d’Armor and Mark Dowling with the EC Mayenne and many others.
But this year, the national team came to Kreiz Breizh in July, the elite team Dan Morrissey Speedy Spokes also came under the leadership of Tim Barry, John Horgan, Philip Finegan and John Vantalon, they did well and were present to the fore on the stage races. They fought well and even a small viruses caused by the capricious weather of spring didn’t stop them. Brittany is tough. However they had leadership in Tim Barry 38, who has been making life difficult for young local champions and mr consuistent Sean Lacey, and Mark Dowling showed his desire to do well, but the first step was to hoist the flag of Dan Morrissey.
In April, the cyclists of Ireland, Wales, the Isle of Man and Scotland, have taken an interest in Brittany again. They came to Tro Bro Leon (The Paris-Roubaix Breton) organized by Jean Paul Mellouet. Padraic Quinn took advantage of the event to perform the matching between the cyclosport Celtic Series.
Then during the summer, the Irish national team led by Bernard McCormack John Horgan and with the help of Jean Vantalon came to race in Kreiz Breizh . The team included youngs riders like Ronan Mc Loughlin, Sam Bennet, Aaron Buggle, Jack Wilson, Sean Downey and Peter Hawkins.
Although they didn’t win this race, they were able to put their strength to the benefit of the team and even show in the sprint finishes in that they were competitive with Sam Bennett and Ronan Mc Loughlin, all this in preparation for the World championships and the Tour of Britain. It had been beneficial in light of the end of their season. The stunning Tour of England was a good race for Sam Bennett, Ronan McLoughlin and Peter Hawkins. The Kreiz Breiz race director Alain Baniel was delighted with the team at the end of the event, and was asking them to return in 2013. No doubt that the National Team of Ireland will come again. Do not forget the months of August and the arrival in mid-August to Brittany of An Post Sean Kelly Team led by Ronan Mcloughlin.
We must also mention those who went the other way, Bernad Hinault went to the Tour of Connemara, the five-time winner of the Tour de France, winner of Paris-Roubaix, the Giro, the Vuelta and many more races.. he really enjoyed his first tour of Connemara and is again waiting on the invitation of Padraic Quinn the President of Celtic Cycling series and Velotec for the 2013 event. 1000 people participated in the ride alongside the cycling legend. , admiring the scenery and the Breton Champion even had a few hours to go fishing for trout.
